Harvey Smith from Arkane Studios recently sat down with Game Informer to talk about the imminent Dishonored: Death of the Outsider and the franchise’s future. The biggest question comes about the title; Death of the Outsider. As it strongly implies that the Outsider could end up dead at the end of the new game, it’s natural to question the future of the Dishonored series given the Outsider’s importance to the setting and lore.
In response to a question about this possible finality, Harvey Smith stated that Arkane Studios do not yet know if they are going to continue the Dishonored franchise following the release of Death of the Outsider, but he does give confirmation that it will mark the end of the story arc that started in the original Dishonored. And, if there are any future Dishonored games, the studio will not use the time period or characters that they have already created.
Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is not a full game but more of an expansion, featuring Billie Lurk and Daud as the main characters who set out to assassinate the enigmatic Outsider. It will release on September 15 for the PlayStation 4 and it will not require Dishonored 2 to play.
